A Good Turn Gives Twins A Bed To Lie In

They also inspired a $10,000 donation to the Autism Society

When a woman named Amanda reached out to the PlushBeds mattress company, little did she know how generous a response she’d receive.

A mother of four, Amanda had been forced to leave her job — and its health insurance — to care for her children. Soon after, her twin boys, then two years old, were diagnosed with autism and severe respiratory conditions. Their doctor recommended that Amanda get them toxin-free mattresses — but she simply wasn’t in a position to afford them.

So she reached out to PlushBeds, and their reaction surprised her — literally. The company arranged to donate organic latex mattresses and pillows, organic sheet sets, organic comforters, and related materials, and to surprise her with the shipment at her door.

“We feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to help Amanda and her family”

“Amanda didn’t ask for anything special. She just wanted us to work with her to find a healthy sleeping solution for her children,” says PlushBeds CEO Michael Hughes. “We had two days to manufacture and ship all of the mattresses, foundations, pillows, sheets, etc., so they would arrive on time, to her home.”

The company arranged a date to visit and film an interview with Amanda about her children’s needs, but didn’t tell her about the mattresses they’d be delivering that day. When Amanda answered the door, “she had tears in her eyes and hugs for everyone,” Hughes says. “She was very surprised and extremely grateful. It was incredible. We feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to help Amanda and her family get the healthy and toxin-free sleep they deserve.”

PlushBeds, a client of our sponsor TurnTo Networks, Inc., submitted Amanda’s story to Good Turns, and have also posted videos and a longer interview with their CEO on the company’s Web site. In addition, the company has pledged to donate up to $10,000 to the Autism Society, $1 per unique share of their Facebook video.
